The Taste of Kerala
Every year we pass the same old houses, the same boatman letting out his net to catch his fish, the same rivers and lush light green paddy fields. Yet every year the view from the train window inspires oneself once more. Its beauty fills you till the brim; its fullness, its virgin green like a bride on her wedding day- waiting to be engulfed. It is this indescribable beauty and charm that is so precisely described on the print of the railway coffee cup – “ the taste of Kerala; written with great marketing intelligibility. I found it ironic to compare the watery syrup claimed to be the infamous morning coffee that promises to wake oneself with a testing sip to the beauty of this state. The words on the cup sure defeated its purpose. But perhaps it spoke with all honesty. Once known for its glory and beauty- the state cheated by its own people to taste like this tasteless syrup. Grand and perfect to look at from the distance of a train window however, when one takes a closer look one can see its been betrayed by its own blood.
